From NYC through New England. Heading North to Quebec and then all the way to the Pacific. Southbound through California, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras to Costa Rica. The first part of our world trip takes 13 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feb 1997 we start in Brooklyn. We find our Van early on \u2013 it finds us, really. Our friend Donna gives us a home and shelter for 3 months.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Katja works as a receptionist renting camera equipment and we both enjoy the East Village Nights. What happens in EV, stays in EV.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Leaving New York and heading to the cold North. Williamstown, MA is the first place. We meet Jacqueline, a friend from Cologne.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Acadia NP is a first highlight of nature. We have ice on the inside in our van, our breath is frozen in the morning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Snow and ice on the road, streets are damaged. We spot moose every day now.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It is still cold at night and we sleep in a B&B for one night to get a warm shower.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Arriving in the French Province. Quebec is having this European touch. A surprise for us.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The van needs a repair. I reversed at night and hit a telegraph pole. Montreal underground City gives us shelter from the cold.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ottawa, half french and half British. We need to start looking for a job soon.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Looking for a Doctor ? Root canal treatment in Canada, always awful to be sick abroad. Thanks we have an insurance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Van Life, it is so much fun, we really enjoy it. Shaving outdoors and cooking indoors.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We find a job! Planting Tobacco in South Western Ontario. We never heard about this before – for a reason. This is damn hard work.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Heading North to Michigan. We arrive in St. Ignace meeting old friends of Katjas parents.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We have jobs as Busser and Dishwasher and get to know a lot of nice people.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The bridge connecting Upper and Lower peninsula is a gigantic piece of architecture.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Party on a cruise under the bridge. A beautiful summer on the Lakes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
